DNA Paternity Testing

Common Questions

Q: Who should be tested?
A: It is preferable to use the three-party testing method (testing the father, mother, and child). Two-party testing (father/child, mother/child) can also be performed.
Q: What type of sample is required?
A: A blood specimen is the preferred type of sample for the testing procedure used at Wuesthoff Reference Laboratories; the use of a blood sample ensures that test results will be available within five working days. Buccal swabs of the inner cheek can be collected if the client does not wish to provide a blood specimen, however, use of buccal swabs will cause a delay in the reporting of test results.
Q: Do the parties to be tested have to be in the same city or state?
A: No. Our laboratory will make arrangements to have samples collected at a collection site in the party's city or state of residence. We will coordinate the transport of samples to our laboratory.
Q: Is the test confidential?
A: Yes. To release results, proper written autorization is required. Results are never disclosed over the phone, but are sent by mail. Wuesthoff Reference Laboratories follows strict reporting policies to assure the privacy of our clients.
Q: Can the test results be used in court?
A: Yes. Our laboraory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists and is certified by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Ammendments. We maintain a secure, unbroken chain-of-custody throughout the testing process.
